In Remembrance: Frederick Funk




Fred was born in Manila, Philippines on December 11, 1933. His family came to San Francisco on the SS Monterey in 1945 when the American troops liberated the Philippines. He was a long time resident of San Mateo. He died as peacefully as he lived his life on June 24, 2014.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Cynthia. They were married for 55 years! Devoted father of Frederick V. Funk, Lydia & Kurt Nordvik, Grace Funk, Arthur & Christina Funk, and Richard Funk & Sharon Frager.

Cherished grandfather of Kyle Nordvik, Kreg & Jaimee Nordvik, Jennifer Funk, AJ Funk, Brandon Funk and Jonathan Frager. Great-grandfather of Aedan Ferreira.

Fred was a bomb technician for the US Air Force during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged. Fred worked for Bank of America for 35 years where he was a pioneer in data processing, working with some of the first computers. He always loved to play poker, and he often won. He was a true champion and gracious in defeat. He was a huge sports fan, particulary faithful to the Giants and 49ers. He'd like to say, "You have to root for the Home team!"
